Frequency (Hot & Cold)
- What it is
- How many times each number has been drawn in the selected set of draws.
- How it is calculated
- We count the appearances of every white ball (and of the bonus ball separately). The black tick on each bar is the count you would expect if every number were equally likely. z-score = (count - expected) / standard deviation.
- How to read it
- Numbers called 'hot' were drawn more than average, 'cold' ones less. A z-score between -2 and 2 is ordinary variation. With 69 numbers, a few will always look hot or cold.
- What it can't tell you
- It does not make a hot number more likely, or a cold number due. Every number has exactly the same chance in every draw.
- Common misunderstanding
- 'Hot numbers keep coming up.' Over a long history the counts drift toward the average; short streaks are just chance.
