Gaps (Overdue)
- What it is
- How many draws have passed since each number last appeared.
- How it is calculated
- We walk through the draws in order and record, for each number, the draws since its last appearance, its average gap, and its longest gap. On average a white ball is missed for about (numbers / 5 - 1) draws between appearances.
- How to read it
- A big 'gap now' is called 'overdue'. Compare it with the average and longest gap to see whether it is unusual. Long gaps do happen regularly.
- What it can't tell you
- A number that has been missing is not more likely to come next. The balls have no memory.
- Common misunderstanding
- 'Overdue numbers are due.' This is the gambler's fallacy: past misses do not change the next draw.
